Southern Tennessee Regional Health System Adds Inpatient Acute Withdrawal Management Program
September 25, 2023
Southern Tennessee Regional Health System (STRHS) – Winchester/Sewanee is introducing STRHS StepOne Service™, it’s new inpatient acute opioid and alcohol withdrawal management service. STRHS is partnering with Evergreen Healthcare Partners to provide this service at STRHS.
Available starting October 1, 2023, STRHS StepOne Service™ provides 24-hour hospital-based care to patients who require medical management of withdrawal symptoms from opioids and/or alcohol.
“This service is not for everyone,” said Bryan Jensen, co-founder and CEO of Evergreen Healthcare partners. “Patients seeking this treatment must meet medical criteria, be in the early stages of withdrawal and be properly motivated for their recovery.”
The process starts with the patient calling, emailing or going online to request a pre-screening. If the patient meets the criteria, they will be scheduled for admission to STRHS’s medical-surgical unit. Treatment lasts on average about three days for opioid withdrawal and about five days for alcohol withdrawal.
"Our dedicated clinical care team, specially trained for the task, accompanies patients throughout their journey, from admission to discharge," explained Adam Martin, CEO at STRHS. "Once we attend to the medical requirements of a withdrawal patient, they can shift their attention towards the subsequent stages of their recovery."
The clinical team will work with patients on a long-term care plan to guide the patient from their discharge from the hospital to their continuing treatment at the next, appropriate facility or program. The care team will keep working with the patient for up to six months after discharge.
Anyone interested in learning more or in undergoing a pre-screening can go to SouthernTnSewanee.com/medical-detox or call 931.201.9868 after September 26th.
